my weekly watch - american edition

hi,
so actually this is not what i watched last week it´s more what i watched since i´ve come to the states.
i want to keep track of my own moviewatching experiences, os if this is not making any sense or is just plain boring i´m sorry.

i went to a lot of movies i wouldn´t normally see (i´m such an arrogant "only indie movies for me" type of girl ;) but i was surprised by some and disappointed by others that i thought i would like.

so first movie i saw was arthur and though i was thoroughly amused by helen mirrens performance of the typical british nanny i was also toroughly annoyed by russell what´s his name´s way to talk. and his teeth.

hannah was weird. i kinda liked it but thought the story was a little weak. great acting, great shots, but still: a movie where everybody is dead except the main character is not my cup of tea. though it was kind of fitting. or maybe not. i´m confused.

now that one totally surprised me. i laughed and laughed and laughed and fell in love with chris o´dowd, who i already loved before because i was in radio rock revolution. now i want to dance for a cop to proove i´m not drunk. i went twice.

i went because i love the 30s and i love the flair of circusses, but while i got all happy because of all the costumes and of course the elephant, i was not a fan of the storytelling and the acting. reese was great doing her circus act but didn´t seem to be that into her character. christopher was alright, robert was robert, only tai the elephant was oscar worthy. the ending was plain schmalzy and not in a good "the notebook" way. started out nice, stalled in the middle, ended bad and boring.

now that´s more my taste. i love both main actors and i love them together. i will love ryan´s character forever, because i know guys like dean and feel sorry for them because they want to make it work so badly and girls like cindy (i relate completely here too) are just even more annoyed by that.

also i was intrigued by the way this movie was made and the journey had to take to be done. i wanna be derek gianfrance and put my actors up to play house for a month. i have to say it worked!

i´m thrilled to have finally seen that masterpiece by one of my heros, terry gilliam. i think he laughs at people who worship him for stuff he did such a long time ago (like time bandits) but i am one of those people and will continue worshipping him for the rest of my life. even moreso after the imaginarium. i´ll have to revisit soon, because that film simply overwhelmed me. of course it also stands as last unfinished movie in heath ledger´s legacy, a guy who puzzled me with his talent and made me suddenly mature in a movie theatre seat during brokeback mountain and who always have my heart out for him because of his struggles.

last but not least i naturally saw the new pirates of the caribbean. who didn´t? johnny depp is always worth a watch. he´s again brilliant as captain jack. the movie though was everything you except from a movie that was a hilarious idea for the first movie that got dragged out to make four (or more). i´m going to start 21 jump street to enjoy some more johnny depp. that is what came from watching stranger tides.

i also watched young victoria, the duchess and the illusionist, because i love period pictures and all of them have some kind of historical event that the story is based on. aahhh all the hours i spent researching the actual events and historical figures :D time well spent!

last saturday (the one before i went to ny) i went to a little crafts fair in my city here. a lot of etsy people were there selling their crafts. i got a beautiful little handmade purse! couldn´t be happier! i´m so glad i also get to see this side of the states!

hi there,
i just got back from my first trip to new york city. i´m guessing it won´t be my last, because beside the usual tourist procedure i found that i am fascinated by what is going on away from broadway, 7th and 5th avenue and times square.
our living quarters were in harlem, we saw a mets game in flushing and went to a concert in brooklyn. my favourite place so far is chelsea park, once railroadtrack used by the meatpacking district butchers, now turned oasis with sunset view. below was a biergarten, one of the very german things i actually like, with a line and a bouncer in front. that made me laugh. new yorkers will have to learn german "gemütlichkeit" when visiting a biergarten :D

upon coming back to the upper state, i discovered that the clouds had made way to the sun in the meantime. it only has to warm up too now, the it´ll be perfect! can´t wait for spring weather! (though it is strange to type this in may)
i hope i can add some of my pictures to this post, but blogger is not cooperating at the moment. WHY?

hi,
so here i am in the united states... my jetlag has only been a mild one so far. each day is getting a little warmer here in the upstate ny.
when i saw the statue of liberty from my plane i vowed to myself to treat me, one day, a crossing of the antlantic ocean by ship, to be greeted like all those settlers and immigrants so many hundred years ago.
i´m hoping to be able to share some pictures and impressions of my first days here soon.

today we had 25° C, which means winter is officially over.
i feel life, light and energy streaming back into my heart, while i enjoy being warmed by the sun for the first time this year. for me the new year really just starts about now, with spring and new life everywhere around me. life has been a bit tough on me last year, but i feel like moving on and really leaving that state right now. in sync with nature i´m ready for some fresh starts.

this is photo i took on that lovely day in paris, when we watched the sun defeat the clouds from the steps in front of sacre coeur. this is the eiffel tower (obviously) in the sunset, after we left the louvre.

hi there again,
i have rather big news. aren´t really new to me but i haven´t shared yet.
i´m going to fly across the pool to the USA in just a couple of weeks to stay there as long as i can (means 90 days, tops)
actually i can´t believe it at all yet, i´ll be in shock once i sit in that plane.
i´ll be staying in the state of new york, up north, does anybody come from somewhere around there?? any ideas or must sees? we´re definately going to hit ny, but apart from that there´s nothing set in stone yet. sooo excited.
it is a pretty big thing for me, cause i have never left europe before. let´s see how i cope ;) can´t wait!
i´ll think i´ll keep posting on the same non consistent level from over there, unless of course you want detailed insight into the the experience of a silly foreigner in the land of the free :D

salut!
one of the reasons why i haven been so absent is because i just spent an enchanted week in france, of course also in paris.
i´m so grateful i live on a country that allows me to get to places like paris or london or even barcelona within a couple of hours. we took the train (i takes a lot of time but if you ever travel europe, try it by train :D) with a lot of stops and time on our hands between trains, which were spent drinking coffee and philosophying.
my favourite memory is when we picknicked in the garden in front of the louvre with a delicious salad and a bottle of milk from la ferme enjoying some rare sunshine.

i just watched never let me go, online. it´s not out in germany yet, but i can´t wait to see it again on the big screen.
i am a mess right now.

from the first few seconds i already knew i would like the beauty with which this piece of movie is built. it moves in a slow way, allowing time for beautiful frames in a lovely range of colours.
what is more important is that i can´t remember having been moved so much by a story. though it is fictional, it is acutely pointing towards questions i myself have about mankind, humanity and civilisation. it is answering none, merely and weakly suggesting something that i can´t quite decipher now in my current state of mind.
maybe it´s just the old advice to love one another...

i'm for the individual as opposed to the corporation. the way it is the individual is the underdog, and with all the things a corporation has going for them the individual comes out banged on her head. the artist is nothing. it's really tragic.

my weekly watch

hi,
i decided to put up a new category, actually the first real category on here.
every sunday night i have a look at the films i´ve seen over the week, how i liked them etc.
this is basically a way to put down my intial reaction and feelings i have after watching a film, and being able to keep track myself in my own movie-diary so to speak.
so let´s see...

i finally watched The Boat that rocked, which is one of the reasons why i think about renaming the blog "honeyislate". i always seem to be behind, that film is one and a half years old, how come i only see it now? it´s on the 60s! how could i miss it??
i have to say that i loved it, the way it was set up and light etc. i had no problem with the often criticised incoherent plotline, for me it was purely a fun experience. why did it do so badly, financially? in my world it would had been a skyrocketing success!
plus it was my first look at tom sturridge, who creepily enough, reminded me a lot of his best mate pattinson. i hope he just used him to create the role of young carl. if not these two must be soulmates or secret twins or whatever. just the voice and the way of articulation. they phrase their sentences exactly in the same manner. maybe a london thing?
apart from that, the movie was colourful, happy, funny and had awesome music. can´t have more, can you?

second watch: completely different scene. french film. complete female cast. 8 women. slightly over-the-top acting. still very entertaining. done like a stage play. interesting songs. bright colours. nice clothes. catherine deneuve. laughed and cried.

third watch: now tom sturridge, robert pattinson´s darked haired twin, got me interested and eddie redmayne is keeping my interest for several weeks now, so i had to check out Like minds. i only saw it on youtube, so i can´t actually say much about the set up, but i loved the acting and the calmness in which (most of) this thriller is taking place. i´m usually not one to love movies about senseless killings or intestines hanging all over the place and bodies being cracked open, but still it was worth a watch. everything with redmayne´s face in it is worth a watch. even if i didn´t get the ending.

fourth watch is actually of no interest to my english-speaking readers (errm.... all) but i´m going to put it out here anyway. it is called vorne ist verdammt weit weg. this film is starring erwin pelzig, who is a regionally well-known fictional character invented by a comedian who used to go to school with my dad. this fella talks in the thickest accent of my hometown (which alone is already quite funny) and in this film he is learning about and fighting against globalisation. highly political topic brought to you in a funny and sweet way. makes you think about capitalism and the downsides of it. maybe i should start writing in german again, too...

that´s it from me, i hope next week this category will be a bit better organised, have a header etc.

i now am officially in love with mr keith richards.
i was given his autobiography for christmas, so naturally the last few days were decicated to him... i read, i researched, i watched and i listened to every little bit i could find about him and the stones.
somebody commented below a youtube-vid that keith "resonates love" and i quite agree. i can do nothing but admire the guy, just for the sheer fact that he is still with us, that he seems happier and and smarter than ever and that he says the most charming things. also that he prooves that not all the good ones die early :)
i know lots of people see his rugged and extrentric exteriour and think he´s nothing but a foul-mouthed junkie, to me though (and i know to lots of you aswell) he´s a sweet, dark, mysterious, super sensual and deep guy (any one hell of a lover... anyone read uschi obermaier`s autobiography? :D). so yeah, here i join the loving-keef club. i´m late on that, but better late than never, right?

hi,
this is my first post from my new laptop!! hurray!
the last time you heard from my computer related problems was when my beloved old iBook died... which was a long time ago. i now am the proud owner of a windows 7 laptop, which is the first time i ever use windows. my dad works in advertisement, so naturally i´ve only ever seen macs around the house. my dad was one of those people who has been an apple follower of the first hour, he even acted as a salesman for a period of time. lately he he is getting fed up with all the lifestyle-blah and that everybody jumps on the apple coolness bandwagon, whereas the quality of the products hasn´t really improved much in his eyes.
so windows 7 it is for me, now. we´ll see how i´m going to cope :D

and because i have to check out how posting pictures works from my shiny new toy: here´s a new frame of uschi´s topless pictures!hope you had a nice christmas!! i sure did. my whole family made their way to our house this year, even though they had to go through the deepest snow. it was also the first christmas of my little nephew (ten weeks old... gah) so i, my sister, my brother (his dad) and my brother´s girlfriend (the little guys momma) took him on a long walk through the snowy landscape. i made lots of picture, you´ll see soon.

being scared constantly stops me from being who i want to be, doing what i want to do, living the way i think is right. and i realise that only by finally getting over my own fears i can start building a world that suits me better that the one i´m currently stuck in. the problem are not the systems i´m against, the problem is that i rarely do things depsite any system or convention.
i am respondsable for my own happiness. nobody can really surpress this or hinder me in pursuing this.

over here we´re stuck in deepest winter weather, everything is whitened, trees and cars and houses, everything looks frosted.
even though i love the look of it, i can´t help but seeing winter as a sort of melancholy time.
you spend more time indoors, more time by yourself, the whole rhythym of life slows down a bit.
for me personaly this winter is a bit of a lonely winter, although in a positive way.
i get to reflect, to make up my mind, to level with myself.
and for the lacking warmth i have a backlot of memories, of summer holidays spend by the sea.

my week with marilyn

so this for me has been a source of major excitement. finally a marilyn movie that seems to be more interesting than the recycling of clichees and images that these biopics normally seem to be. my week with marilyn picks only a small time frame out of her life (an important period, too) and i can´t wait what they´ll do with it.
course i´m a little bummed that i´m not a director yet to be a part of a project like that and also that i´m nowhere near the position to portray marilyn (that´s about the only role that would want to make me an actress)... but you can´t be everywhere at once can you! (i hope everybody realises i´m joking... like frustrated dreamers do :D)
the casting came as a surprise, but a good one, i wouldn´t have wanted them to cast scarlett johansson. that would have been a bit too obvious. i personally love michelle williams and have trust in her acting skills. she´s fantastic.

costumes look great to from where i´m sitting... michelle might be a little less curvy than the ideal marilyn actress, but well...
bonus point: look at eddie redmayne in the back of the first picture. he´s so interesting, especially his face... i watch movies just to see him act. the pillars of the earth is one of them. i annoy everybody around me with stuff like: "god look at that face... it´s like art... somebody should take a lot of artsy black and whites of him... aahh look at that look..."
nobody should try to watch a movie with me :D

incindentally to the pillars of the earth, i study history of art at the moment (eddie redmayne did too! :D) and learn all about cathedrals... even though i will probably stop studying that soon, it´s funny how sometimes in life everything fits together for a moment.

hi there,
i´m not sure if people actually still read this blog (not sure if they ever did) but i´m just stopping by to announce that i´ll be taking a break from blogging.
i haven´t really been a good blogger the past year anyway and i guess it´s just time to go. i´ll keep the adress and the blog for the simple reason that i lost a lot of the pictures that i posted on here and it´s the easiest way to keep them.
i might later on maybe pick up blogging again, probably when i´ll be really a honeyincarnabystreet, studying in london or something.
at the mo i´m starting uni in my hometown and am going through a minor crisis that i don´t really want to deal with. it´s about getting over myself and i´m not really good at this.
also a lot of friends moved to other cities to study so i´ll spending more time now just to keep contact and at the same time try to meet new people.
maybe this year i´ll finally figure out what i´m all about and find a way to express it in some form that will actually earn me a living. maybe i´ll be wanting to blog then too. we´ll just wait and see.
so goodbye, i read a lot of blogs that gave me a lot; insight and inspration. i thank all these fabulous bloggers even if they won´t read this. just putting the vibe out there :D

what do i do on a rainy saturday afternoon? remember how it was last summer... these pictures are from almost exactly a year ago and show what late summer looks like somewhere in the middle of germany. i feel a bit uneasy about showing pics of myself here, so you´ll only get the ones where you can´t make out the faces (or where i´m stuffing myself with apples so you see more apple than face)
anyway i don´t live directily in a city but in the country side and i actually quite like it. running in the fields on a warm day, eating apples directly from the tree and being able to see the next mountains on a clear day is truely something to treasure. have to remind me especially on days like these when it just won´t. stop. raining. in late september... not having it :(

so julian and i share a hobby. what i have seen of this exhibition so far is beautiful.
"timeless" is a good title for a showing of photos. i´ve been thinking about photography a lot lately. through the internet you get to see so many great pictures all the time, by people who run a blog or have a tumblr, and sometimes i wonder why i even try to take nice pictures when everybody could or can. and i also realised that the pictures that at the end of the day impress me the most are the ones that are timeless, simple even in a way. the ones that are still there when you close your eyes, not the ones that fade and morph into eachother, because you´ve seen so many of those perfectly made pics, seen so many repeats of the same styles. i´ve already taken myself out of the "i got an expensive camera and know how to use photoshop"-photographers, because i only take black and whites with an old relfex camera (god that sounded arrogant, sry... i love those kind of people and would love to take pictures like they do... but i tried and failed) and though i know i might never accomplish that, i want to take pictures you could still look at in a hundred years. timeless, and also with an instilled magic that makes you want to look at them for longer than five seconds. and makes you think of them, long after you looked. i want pictures that give you a moment, pictures that don´t rush to the next, and the next, and the next...
i hope i can you show you something that vaguely goes into that direction, soon :D

not the greek goddess... no the italien call jellyfish that. i´m back from my vacation and after two weeks of lounging around in the sun i feel like a medusa... drifting, sailing, living from day to day with no motivation to guide my course, hoping not to get washed towards the sharp rocks and the gravitiy that claims you when you leave the water... part of me hates myself for my laziness and unwillingness to fill my days sensibly, the other encourages my inner cat to do nothing but laying around.

but not willing to change anything yet. my drifter existence is too relaxing to be given up now. real life catches up with me soon anyway.

resolutions, revolutions - results up to this point

i talked at the beginning of 2010 about resolutions, big plans i had (still have) for this great year... i need to see how far i got more than half way through the year now.
1. apply to an FH to become i director - i didn´t. i found the perfect school though and will apply in 2012 when they take new students for my particular subject. but i could bite my ass (with a bit more yoga i actually could) for not trying for anything similar somewhere else. being a lazy bum just gets in the way...
2. audition to an acting school - nearly did, but in the last second i decided that i don´t really want to be an actress (i´d be such a terrible cliché... insecure artsy actress :D), and the auditioning - process is too much of a hassle (and expensive) for something i don´t really want. did go to two auditions for smaller parts and extras on two film productions and know for sure i´m in for one of them. that´s pretty close to my original goal and much less of a hassle.
3. do something free and daring - well i had it all planned, an interrail-trip with three friends through italy starting in venice... they went, i didn´t. had an internship for a month that in the plan was only supposed to be two weeks long... we couldn´t go at a later point because one of them already moved to france to start studying. i´m still sad about that...
4. form a band - been there, did that, but nothing came from it. i keep trying... made lots of music either way.
5. revolute - done. i became a part of an organisation that protects nature directly in the region i live. also i slimmed down useless shopping at greenwashing exploiting huge swedish fashion stores. wore more vintage and hand-me-downs. costumized stuff. haven´t set my foot into a plane this year. ate the right food.
6. be positive - i am. most of the time... eventhough i don´t know where my frame of mind currently is, i feel good. i learned that being thankful is the most powerful thing. because it lifts your spirits and makes you see things clearer, whereas feeling bitter about stuff that you´re not happy with darkens everything and makes you see through the opposite of rose-colored glasses.

still got four months to go, can´t wait to see what happens! how´s your year going so far?

in german there´s this wonderful word "fernweh", it´s like homesickness, only you´re feeling it for places you want to go to abroad. as a traveler i like to go to places i like more than once, so i´m constantly coming back to them, soaking them in in every way. so my form of "fernweh" is actually kind of being homesick, i am longing to go back to the places i felt good and 'at home'.
also i´m a person whose senses are extremely alert most of the time, so i tend to look for more details than the average tourist. this way i can go back to places a lot and always find new little things i haven´t seen before that intrigue me. if someplace is really dear to me i want to get to know it completely, like it is a home to me.
sometimes i feel i just see more than others, but maybe it´s just that it doesn´t take much to interest me :D and i want to go back and look at it again... and again...

so, my hair is after long travels to ear-long in ginger, sleek bob-like in brown-red and curly, chin-long in strawberry blonde finally back home, long wavy blond. and for once i´m happy with it the way it is. In about half a years time i´ll be probably sporting something bob-like or even shorter again, which will take the year after that to grow it back :D it´s an neverending story!
to celebrate my current state of hair-happiness, here are some of my fav summer locks.

yeah i can´t believe i´m actually on my blog, posting... hasn´t happened in a while. cause i´m still hanging in between everything. not a pupil anymore, not a student yet. got no plan, most certainly no back up plan and since i´m don´t know where i´m going any road will take me there.

this is pretty much the conflict i find myself in these days. i´m in the middle of finishing school, setting my feet into a new direction, trying to decide where to go. part of me knows that life is too much a mystery to make my hasty desicions matter much. part of me wants to surf life and not be afraid of the future, knowing that it will work out in some way. part of me is excited by all the opportunities that open themselves up to me now, all the directions i can go in.

the other part is just nakedly afraid of everything, questioning every wish and longing. do i deserve what i wish for? shouldn´t i just be thankful for the remarkably priviledged life i´ve led so far? do i really need to reach for the stars?

i found this quote on gloria´s great blog. i find it equally fascinating and true as frightening. my life is mine. there is no one to rely on. it´s in my hands. whereas that could also feel comforting, to me at my present situation it puts even more pressure on me. it´s mine so if it ends up totally messed up it´s my fault too. am i weak when i rely on a friends desicion? i often find myself gravitating around my friends confidences. the way they carefully choose between their options. i often feel them waiting for me to make up my mind before they come to a conclusion themselves. are we really as alone in this as we wish and sometimes are afraid to be?
for me today it feels more like life is a fine web of desicions and tendencies, that rely on friends or family more that we think and that we never are truly alone in what we do. at least this is what i hold on to today. every little step we take on our path new options and ways open themselves up to us and it´s us aswell as the people around us that inspire and influence our next steps.

resolutions, revolutions

i never made new year´s resolutions before, because i always doubted i´d live up to them and therefore would at the end of a year just have a long list of things i didn´t do, but this year is different, or will be different. as i mentioned before it´s my big year of changes and as usual with a lot of change from outside there´ll be some inner changing too. in a positive way i hope.
and why resolutions this year? because my list contains almost only things i´d punch myself for if i shouldn´t be able to at least try to make them come true.

1. apply to a FH to become a director. this is not a cineastic blog, i know, but the love and inspiration is ever present in my life. i think in pictures, scenes and light, i can´t help being a very visual person.

2. audition to an acting school. just to see if they´d take me.

3. do something free and daring. like hitch-hiking through europe. going to marocco by train. taking a foot-path over the alps. i´m not a macher, who just goes at something like that alone and i always had the sort of friends who would find it to dangerous to say, hitch-hike to amsterdam. this year i just want to do it, find new friends if i need to or just drag my older brother to instanbul with me.
i don´t want to rely so much on other people´s desicions as i used to.

4. form a band. growing up in a family of musicians i was the black sheep, who never stayed with one instrument long enough to learn it properly. no, i started off with violin, went on to piano, tought myself guitar as i went, started learning to play the trumpet and finally settled with my ukulele. well no i didn´t settle, it´s the instrument that comes easy to me. i settled with singing as being the one thing i know how to do. growing up with my parent´s bands rehearsing in the living room i always dreamed up my own bands as a child, i had names, repertoires and band concepts in my head before i could carry a tune. now being all grown-up (lol) i still sing all the time, still think of bands, still listen to other bands rehearsing so it´s about time i went and started my own group.

5. revolute (if that isn´t a word i just invented it). do something to make the world a better place. or do more. stop being so god-damn lazy. i could be so much more politicial, ecological and ethical correct if it wasn´t easier the other way. it´s the little things that get over looked because i´m to lazy to care if i unneccesarily had yet another coffee to go somewhere with yet another paper cup to be trown away. it seems of course petty to think of things like paper cups but in he long run and the whole picture all the paper cups i use for about ten minutes before i throw the in the next rubbish bin would make quite a number of trees which need a couple of decades to grow back.

6. be positive. it´s the vibes you know. i belive in positive vibration, in the healing powers of an optimist, in the strong heart of a loving person. i might not always follow that concept, i also not one of those optimists who blanks out everything negative (i even believe that that makes one sick), but i want to see the good things in life, the beautiful things, i want to experience and take in all the nice situation around me every day. because they´re there, i just have to see them.

i think that´s enough of big things for one year and i hope it´s not to late for resolutions... i had them floating around for the past two weeks and just needed to put them down, so i decided why not here?

hello there in the new year!
my 2010 has already brought me something wonderful to waste my time with in the form of another british 60s popgroup beginning with the wonderful letter B. who could that b?
it´s the pre-disco bee gees! maybe i just like them because they sound very beatle-esque, maybe i´d like every group from that time if i´d actually listen to them, maybe it´s genetic, because it was actually my mom who got bee gees music for christmas, whereas it has been me who spent the last days listening to nothing else, trying to decide wether how can you mend a broken heart sounds better in stereo or mono (these studies have not yet been successful).
but i´m sure there are some pre-natal experiences involved, when my mom danced around a living room with her sister singing massachusetts at the top of her lungs (which happened again just a week ago) with the volume up and the husbands fleeing.
i´m scarred forever :D

i´ll be away until 2010 and don´t know if i´ll be keeping the blog after that. we´ll have to wait and see... my time in school is spiraling to an end (well in may that is) and i will be busy with a lot of learning, applying to universities, giving my life a perspective, making desicions... until now i want to keep the blog and of course i´ll still be reading a lot of other blogs but i also know that my blogging has been sparse and crappy most of the time in the last months so maybe it just doesn´t make sense to keep it. maybe i´ll transform it so it´ll be a beautiful butterfly after its metamorphosis :D

all that´s left to say at this time of year is that i hope everybody is fine and with their loved ones, home, safe and happy. i wish you all the best , a merry christmas and a very new year :D
i´ve got nothing obviously christmassy in my santa claus bag, but a roll of john piccies that have the most amazing christmas tree green. so they fit sort of :D i love the third one... if it were under my christmas tree i´d get all excited and whisper (to afraid to scare it): "you got me a puppy!!?!" john would indeed look very good as a puppy under my tree... ;-)

making this post on topic by using a beatles song as a title. when it couldn´t actually be more off topic :D
i want to share two pictures with you from the set of something´s got to give , the film marilyn never finished. they show dean martin and marilyn as the couple they play in the movie and the chemistry between them makes me really wanna see what the end result would have looked like. i guess the story is sorta known by everyone, marilyn comes back from living on an island for five years after a planecrash only to find her husband to be newly-wed to another woman. of course they find back together in the end.
very lovely story about dean´s loyalty to marilyn: when fox fired her due to her not showing up on set again and again, he refused to finish the film with a replacement. the studio then got marilyn back, but before they could get back to filming marilyn sadly died.
also these pics make me think that marilyn would probably have needed a man like dean, very manly, shoulder to cry on, but also tender and loving. i always felt miller was sort of a wrong choice which put her condition from bad to worse.
anyway enough of that pondering, they make a lovely couple. period.

okay, i might have said just two posts ago that i´m turning torwards my classy side and leave behind the richly decorated hippie. forget it. these pics of penelope tree (by david bailey) make me want to turn out my tendancy towards flowery patterns, ethnical styles and lots of colour even more. especially on days like today (gray, wet, foggy and cold). if fall wasn´t turning into winter already i´d say this is the way to go in fall... so okay next fall. i love it, i might have to leave out anything furry though, whgich would make the look a little less interesting but with the fur substitute wool maybe bearable. and cozy.

the dreaded date

today is the european date of john´s death (in my mind it is... the night of the 8th in ny is already the 9th in europe??) and before this day is done (we´re nearing bed-time :D) i thought i might have to put a few thoughts out there.
i honestly don´t know what to feel. all over the web there are people saying how they miss john so much and it always hits me so strangely because it is as though you have to feel that way as a beatlefan. i don´t miss john. don´t get me wrong i love the man, i hate this day and wish with all my heart he was still with us, but i can´t miss him. i was born ten years after his death and everything i know or love about him is just a memory, a powerful memory of course because it is shared by so many people, but still, he as a person never felt real to me. he might be just a made-up fairy being of my head and in a way he is, because i never met him, everything i read about him was opinions of second or third persons, what i read about himself in interviews usually confused me even more than i already was.
maybe these people who say they miss him walked this earth when he was still alive, but maybe didn´t and they just picked it up, because it´s what you say when somebody is gone. you miss him or her, and how does it feel? missing an almost fictional figure? somebody who´s not even aware that he makes such a large part of your life, that he is important to you as an individual? somebody who´d be probably scared to death if he knew what hopes, longings and fantasies you project onto him? somebody who´d maybe be upset even that his death provokes such grieving whereas the death of a little kid-soldier isn´t even noticed.
i just don´t know, it´s only the third year that i am so aware of what happened today and i guess i haven´t quite found a way to deal with it. grieve? ignore it? make a rememberance day? cry? sing his songs? or just try to keep the spirits high and happy?

i hope what i wrote didn´t offend anyone´s way of spending this day, i didn´t mean it the way you got it, i´m sure.
i wonder if more young fans feel slightly off on this day? or is it just me who is surprised to notice that this day isn´t much different from others and i don´t really feel the way one yould expect it?

since i haven´t gathered enough information to post anything reliable concerning the relationship of catherine and david, i´m just filling time and empty space with some pictures that david took of his wife. all i can say is they´re typically bailey and that catherine is a really really beautiful woman, who is more and more inspirational for me. being normally a richly decorated, colour flashing hippy, who on purpose sometimes wears things that don´t exactly match, she makes me go and explore my classic side. suddenly i don´t dream of the perfect poncho, or what i could knit at least resembling a poncho, but of the perfect sharply tailored coat and matching flats. i´m thinking of taming my hair a little make it curl where it´s supposed to and probably going for a look with just one essential necklace. sounds kinda exciting for me... i hope all of this longs until i found that perfect coat and that i still feel like looking a little more classy, when i´m visiting my grandparents again :D they would approve!

just posting a pic to say sorry for the lack of blogging. it´s david bailey and catherine deneuve, one i´ve not seen as often as others and i post it because i wish i could pull a cap like that as cool as she does... and i probably wish i could call a guy as cool and talented as bailey my boyfriend.
but i´m not complaining... well maybe i am. it´s wet, cold and grey, school sucks, graduation comes closer with ever effing day, and with it the inevitable question of 'what to do with this life'?
cause it seems everything i love or want to spend my time with isn´t ever going to earn me living. i feel like i´m floating when i should be walking and i feel like i can´t grip anything and make it feel real in my hands when i should be having my feet firmly on the ground and my hands on something i can hold onto.
and i´m telling myself everything i thought i believe in, but as it turns out i´m a little less optimistic as soon a theoretic ideal is about to be transferred into reality. reality just hits hard sometimes, beside a pink, vibrant blog stuffed with things i want to be, see, do, the ways i want to look like, the spirits i´d like to maintain.
seems i can´t. at the moment. being myself though i know i will keep on keeping on, because i´m a pisces and always stand up whatever knocked me down :D so just ignore this diary-style blah. it doesn´t mean anything, i just needed to get it out to make my smile come back.

heehee... so here´s julian and his mother cynthia in julian´s italien home (i think)... you can easily see the fabby road sign on the mantle piece. now one could think it refers to the rutles or some other pythonesque parody but that would be shabby road of course. for you this is probably old news but i was delighted to find it in julian hilarous video of 'i don´t wanna know'. if one can make fun of this whole story it is julian and i think he does it great! it´s indeed pythonesque and actually not really innovative, but i still like it.

i´ve no idea what the reaction was when it came out so it´s possible that i stumbled into a huge hate-fest without realising it. i still like it! *hides*

no i haven´t got the knack (at least not with women *wink wink nudge nudge*), but i gave it (the dvd... not my way with fellas :D) to a very generous friend of mine as a selfish present and she thankfully believes in the holy laws of give and take, of sharing.

means in short it got to watch it. loved it, loved it, loved it!
it´s a super cute story about a shy and awkward teacher colin who wants to learn the knack from his womanizer house mate tolen. on the go a brown-hating painter moves in and starts painting everything white, country-girl nancy arrives in town, an old metall bed (bigger than even rory mcbride´s) is purchased and also receives some white paint treatment, someone looses his knack and somebody else gets it. boy-being and girl-being unite at the end. throughout the film surrealistic elements do much of the story-telling without interfering with it. all in all it´s a very watchable package, just my kind of film... it has in no time made into the top-five of my fav film rankings... and will stay there for long i guess.

that´s why i have a couple of pics around that film... the cover of the film score record, the german film poster, an english film poster, rita tushingham, premiere pics. sounds a lot but isn´t really as it turns out. :) anyway have fun! and make sure to watch it in case you haven´t yet.

hey there,
so after weeks of consistent non-blogging i´m here just to announce another week of no posts, but i have a happy, swinging and very fab reason. i´m going to london!
i´ve been there before but that was before i developed any beatles- or 60s-awareness so i guess i will see the city in a whole new light!
i hope i come back with a big bunch a stories to be told, pictures to be shown and maybe vintage clothes to share (... errh we have to see how that goes with my small budget :D)

so here´s one of paul´s early girlfriends,probably the only one who´s really important, because she´s the one paul got engaged to. when she was 16 and he was 17 (i think) she got pregnant and it was decided they should get married. eventhough paul agreed, dot said that when she miscarried the baby three months later, she could see a lot of relief in his eyes. who could blame him. they stayed engaged for a while after that, but paul eventually broke up when the beatles began to take off and he felt he needed more freedom ... i think he ended up with jane asher a year later... still had freedom :D it´s funny that john is always seen as the bad boy among the two, when in fact paul got a girl pregnant first and was much, much younger. and had several girlfriends at the same time... john might have had affairs but he didn´t lead a double life behind his wife´s back. well in a way they all did, but you know what i mean :D

i knew this lovely photograph of them but i´ve never seen it in such good quality. it´s probably taken by mike mccartney and portrays rather perfectly a rocker-couple in the 50s. you gotta love paul´s DA :D

miss peel-pants made a wonderful post about sylvie and her hats, which i choose as an occasion so say something i always wanted to say. wear more hats!
i bought a wonderful purple (well not quite, more pink-ish purple if that makes sense) floppy hat over a year ago and i haven´t worn it once in public. shame, shame... but because i live in a rather small city i would be dubbed ' the girl with the strange hat', just because i´d be the only around wearing a hat (even old ladies gave it up). this autumn i made a vow with meself to wear my beloved hat aswell as many others i haven´t bought yet and as i´m already 'the girl with the strange clothes' i might aswell throw them all over with something purple on my head.

this is around the time the beatles got their mbe. it´s quite possible that this was on the morning the beatles were interviewed about that matter, seeing that john is sporting the same bedhead as in the interview. also there´s this story that john didn´t want to go because he didn´t know what to think about that mbe thing and brian had to personally get him. seeing that brian is in the pic, john is havin a bedhead and wearing the same jacket it has to be on 12 june 1965. period.

i am an amateur photographer, i´m into artsy black`n`whites i take with an old minolta reflex cam (maybe more on that when i´ve processed a new bash), but i´m like so amateur that i´d like to leave out the photographer. i am an amateur.
this is old news but maybe some haven´t seen it. here´s a link about brian duffy (finally found out that there actually was a photographer named duffy in the 60s). he was rumored to have burned all his negatives *gasp*!! he for example took this gorgeous pic of john, which i´ve never ever seen before!you can read more on him in the link. and i found out that he is the photographer we have to thank for those jane asher picsi posted it a while ago thinking there was a photographer named john duffy... nah it´s brian duffy. anyway this is an early ossie clark paperdress with the famous celia birtwell fabric design. this image appeared in nova, a 60s magazine. i badly want to have it and then love it to death (aswell as anything else in that photograph)

since this is cyn week and i have been a lazy bum, here are some rather rare ones of cyn&john plus various cars.
#1: cyn gets into an unidentified car (i´m crap at things like cars) in late 67
#2: surprisingly brown-haired cyn in a car with "pepperstached" ringo and john (i like inventing words) you can see the reflection of brian in the car window
#3: now idea. probably usa. late 63, early 64. sumthin like tha'.
#4: john´s coming home from touring australia, cyn meets him at the airport
#5: not really rare. john&cyn in nyc on the way to their hotel, first us visit.

in 65 not long before filming help! john and cyn went along with george martin and then girlfriend, later wife, judy on a skiing trip to st. moritz. i wish those were of a better quality, because they´re so lovely. john and cyn look so genuinly happy!
i´m going to stick with cyn now for a bit, she was the first beatlegirl i noticed (first saw her in the first visit to usa bits on the anthology and stereotyped her as a blonde, sexy mistress or something) and is still somehow a favourite (though i´m sometimes leaning towards pattie... and i had a heavy jane phase). let´s call it a cyn week.
