donovan

yesterday donovan was on a silly tv-programm about the hits of the flower-power movement and donovan was there (miss lizzy told me). as far as i know donovan is also going on a tour of the world soon (i told miss lizzy :). he apparently talked about his stay in rishikesh with the beatles (miss lizzy told me again) and so i was inspired to post the following pic... i shouldn´t be explaining myself that much when it comes to when and why i post a pic... it´s only one pic for god´s sake!!
anyway here´s donovan and a very hairy john in india... sean sorta always looks like that... like a teddy-bear with glasses :D

just a few posts ago i recommended that movie... it´s wonderful and sorry jude, but michael caine is definately awesome in this original. they´re actually quite similar and of course comparable; big, dandy-like, blond and ... a wow.
still you can see very clearly that michael caine plays a whole different league, that the 60s alfie is a whole different film and that a star like caine is a whole different one than a jude law.
by today´s standards caine wouldn´t be considered as good-looking as jude law is considered. we would more call him classy and charming... which he wasn´t meant to be in the 60s.
alfie is a great film in a lot of ways. it can be easy entertainment if you want to see it that way. if you don´t it´s a deep story with a lot of potential to make you think. in the right mood i´d even it´s a sad tragedy about loneliness.
michael caine was something like a real working class hero. born into a poor cockney family in london, he knew he wanted to get rich from early on. in the army he changed his real name, Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Jr. into the name he got famous with.
he started to appear in theatre groups and little film rolls until his break-through in the mid 60s. alfie was one of the films that made him popular.
now , after being knighted, his full name is sir maurice joseph micklewhite, jr. and he still enbodies the clever and gifted working class lad, who made it with personality rather than corruption or whatever it is you need to get rich.

feeling crafty

at the mo i´m into knitting and making stuff myself... i even designed some clothes i´m going to sew for myself soon. and i´m getting things you need to make earrings, cause i´m fed up with looking for special ones and never finding some fitting my imagination. (err those black edie sedgwick ones)
i wish i´d have more time to 1. post and 2. be crafty.
cause i really love making thing myself with my own hands. baking bread or making lemonade, baking cookies, making soap, painting walls in a colourful way, building shelfs and just currently i learned/am still learning to process my own films (i swore off digital photos ;D).
ah how awfully old-fashioned :D


jane is very crafty... she can make interessting looking sculptural pics for the wall and is running a cake business.

eigentlich bin ich erklärte nichtraucherin (ausgenommen die geliebte shisha), ich habe es ausprobiert, sogar regelmäßig geraucht manchmal und bin trotzdem zu dem schluss gekommen, dass rauchen mir nichts gibt, was die gesundheitsbelastungen und das eklige gefühl von nikotinschwaden an jacken, hosen, finger, haaren... ausgleichen könnte.
trotzdem muss ich zu geben, dass raucher manchmal einen (wahrscheinlich anerzogenen) eindruck von coolness auf mich machen. die beatles könnte man sich ohne obligatorische fluppe ja gar nicht vorstellen. das oben ist übrigens das einzige bild auf dem sich alle gleichzeitig eine anstecken. ansonsten gibt es hunderte auf denen, einer und mehrere beatles rauchen, sich eine anstecken, sich gegenseitig feuer geben...

just a stream of thought kind of thing

this vid is a gift. it has everything in it: granny takes a trip, biba, the bag o´nails and and and... it gets me all nostalgic, which is really stupid, since i never lived in the 60s. not even my parents were fully aware of these great, groovy times! (mum was five, dad ten when the 60s ended)
and going perfectly together with some futuristic designs and fashions that were so hip back in the day, i can´t stop thinking of "beam me up, scotty"... wonder if scotty could 'beam' into another time?? cause i´m quite prepared for that eventuality (some sort of beatles reference has to be included :) i just put on a fab dress, big earrings, bee-hive-like hair do and a polyester shirt (it´s terrible to wear but it´s original 60s!!) and sigh dramatically: "this dollybird is sure ready for time-travel..." being all depressed that no scotty just appeared in my room saying something like: "you´re born in the wrong time? you´d like to go back to the swinging 60s? you´re annoyed with you own stupid time and generation?? do not worry any longer!! scotty´s beam-a-rama knows ways to help!!" *sings horrible advertising music to go with it* XD

the knack (and how to get there)

if there´d be ways for me to attend the premiere of the knack (it´s actually and how to get it) i certainly would be there. here are the lennons and the starkeys who actually made it. yay for them! cyn wears a gorgeous dress in one of my favourite colors and mo is pregnant with little zac. sadly there aren´t many good pics of mo... actually there aren´t many bad ones aswell.

let´s go hitch-hiking!

today i spent some time in discussion with a few friends, trying to decide where to spent a holiday (or two or three :) this year... i´d like to go on a mad roadtrip with a bunch of interesting people. by car, by train or hitch-hiking. not knowing where to sleep or what to eat the next day. no direction, no plan. no destination, just the road ahead of you and the cost of total freedom. needless to say that my friends don´t want to do that... but i think, to say it in george´s words: "this is the only live i can remember" so why should i be holding on so strongly to security. shelter i have, when i get home. i want to go and find some answers about myself and experience things to make me a better human being. cause how are we supposed to better ourself if we live in the restricted, but comfortable structures western society builts around us?

the 60s on film

i´m quite a lover of films, even though i don´t go to the cinema much. i´m in love with classic collection dvds and artsy films (anyone surprised? ;). i also love old phoney hollywood! especially the ones where you can think of the dialouge a minute before it actually unfolds :D see-through-scripts or something like that...
of course, and this is why this post lands here, i also love quite some movies from the 60s. here´s a collection i absolutely recommend to watch.wonderwall. music by george harrison, starring jane birkin. this one is great, i only saw it once, but i´d watch it again and again. very colourful with clothes designed by the fool...


the knack, it´s a shame, i never saw this one. but i gave the dvd to a certain miss lizzy for christmas and this way i´ll get to see it soon! YAY... it´s dick lester and i first noticed the film when i saw pics of rings and mo and john and cyn at the premiere!


how i won the war. i admit i only watched johnny´s scenes until now. i´ll buy it today! funny that the dvd says "avant-garde cinema"... :D

i just deleted a couple of fashionblogs in my inspiration-navigation list (which contains of two blogs now :D) because i noticed that most fashionblogs do nothing else than piss me off. when i discovered them i thought they might be actually interesting, but after now checking them from time to time i had to admit that it´s absolutely boring to read about designers and labels i don´t know or care about. i´m just not a fashion person, or at least not in that way. and even if it´s very hip to have a great bloglist full of hip links, i thought i´d better get rid of them and fill the empty space on the right with links i really (!) find interesting. now i have to find those sites... may take a bit of time, but who cares?
i left susie bubble´s blog, cause she´s unique and inspiring and ali-bell cause she sews greatly.

upon noticing that "the other lennon-boy" sean is definately lacking attention here, i decided to post some pictures of him, some i personally like a lot. despite that, my knowledge about sean is close to zero, i know he´s making music and was born in 1975 on the birthday of his dad. that´s about it... oh and he seems to have thing going for models and asian women.

akte beatles: den fakten auf der spur

wer the anthology gesehen hat, wird sich wohl an manchen stellen gewundert haben wie die erinnerungen der verschiedenen sich-erinnernden nicht übereinstimmen. überhaupt hat man das gefühl, dass die geschichte der beatles über die zeit zu einer universal-erinnerung geworden ist, gleichzeitig eine art sage, ein geheimnis, dessen kernwahrheit wir gar nicht mehr zurückverfolgen können. es bleibt eine unglaubliche geschichte verwoben mit gefühlen und eindrücken, anekdoten und zeitgeist.
ich habe bei zwei geschichten versucht die wahrheit zu entdecken, weil der fakt der ihnen zu grunde liegt zum greifen nah scheint.
die eine dreht sich um das einmalige treffen der beatles mit elvis und der frage ob sie mit ihm musik gemacht haben oder nicht. dazu später mehr.
die zweite geschichte findet auf der tour nach japan statt. zuerst erzählt paul, dass einmal tatsächlich der hotelhaft entkam. george glaubt es war paul und ringo und zuletzt meint neil aspinall er wäre mit john getürmt. wer auch immer es geschafft hat oder nicht, hatte das hotel kurz verlassen, war herum gelaufen und wurde dann von einem polizist zurück gepfiffen.
es kann natürlich sein, dass john oder neil tatsächlich ebenfalls unterwegs ware, beweise hab ich dafür nicht.
allerdings gibt es bilder von paul und mal evans wie sie ausserhalb des hotels herum laufen. there you go! mystery solved :D
